		<description>Thanks Ape23 for the comments.  I think you nailed it on the head with the belief that some artists feel that if the big stars aren&#039;t doing it  then it must not work.  With indie artists making an impact, it&#039;s really up to people like us to use these forums to help each other out, and innovate. &lt;br&gt;&lt;br&gt;I believe the focus now should be on what many in the music marketing community are pushing, which is the direct to fan model.  Don&#039;t think of list building as just a task.  Use it as an extension of your conversation in hopes to get the fan to trust your brand.  We dont have to think of gimmicks but we do have to make it interesting for our fans.&lt;br&gt;&lt;br&gt;Good luck with your promotion of your group and keep me posted on what has worked for you.</description>

		<description>Great post. The mailing list seems to be one of the most under utilized tools when artists are marketing their music. A big problem I see is that a lot of new artists that are trying to get their music out there look at the same people you listed above as inspiration. Since those big name artists aren&#039;t  actively building a solid list or offering free content, these new artists don&#039;t take it upon themselves to do that either.&lt;br&gt;&lt;br&gt;I&#039;m working with a hip hop group here in San Diego and I was looking around quite a bit to see what others were doing as far as list building goes and I only found a few examples of free music being given away as an incentive to sign up.</description>
