I came across an interesting article by Michael Arrington from Techcrunch.com that described the role of Myspace in the U.S. music market as critical because of its size and growth in relation to Facebook. Facebook and Myspace play a huge role in my music promotional campaign and the stats support the cause. The key here is to exploit each networks advantages and finding the right combinations.
Myspace has a huge 36 million user lead in the U.S over Facebook while Facebook dominates the international market. Establish yourself in the U.S, with millions of people creating or searching for music. Great numbers if you are a producer trying to sell music to up and coming artists. These are also great numbers for emcees trying to sell music online because there is definitely a marketplace to sell your music through Myspace. From this vast pool, target your specific music niche because your success relies on your plan of attack in this competitive market.

I hear sometimes from musicians that Myspace is no longer the factor it once was and they abandon their Myspace promotion and switch over to many of the newer unproven networks that pop up every minute. Myspace stats announce 35 million people a month visit their profiles, including music and artist pages. Social network mixing is a great idea, however, you should focus some efforts towards musicians communities that dominate the music market.
In conclusion, both Myspace and Facebook offer different strategies that can be very useful. Use these networks for what their niches offer. For example, Myspace seems to dominate the U.S. Music market against Facebook, so you can target its international limitations. Find each network’s limitations and spend time on the winning aspects. This will save your marketing time and money.
Its about that time to customize my myspace music page and add new tunes to my music player. To read more of Micheal’s article, click here.
